The footpath from Sowton Village is marked by a stone gateway which is the entrance to the historic carriage drive to Bishops Court Palace. It leads to a beautiful walk through woods, over the River Clyst to the former Deer Park with views of the Gothic Palace.

Bishops Court is the medieval residence of the Bishops of Exeter, which was remodelled in the Gothic Revival style by architect William White in the 1860s.
